+ Question: What is Ashiatsu massage?
Answer: We’re glad you asked! Ashiatsu is a massage technique using deep strokes from the massage therapists’ bare (and squeaky clean) feet. It is a western version of an ancient form of bodywork, with roots dating back thousands of years from cultures across Asia, India, Africa and the Pacific Rim.
+ Question: Who can benefit from an Ashiatsu Massage?
Let’s first get this out, this is a DEEP massage. If you don’t like deep pressure, then this might not be the modality of bodywork for you. While Ashiatsu is popular among athletes, we like to convey that it is also great for humans doing human things. Because it is famous for back and hip pain relief, and elevated levels of relaxation, most people will reap the benefits of this type of massage therapy. Please check out this page for information on specific conditions NOT recommended for Ashiatsu.
+ Question: How does an Ashiatsu Massage work?
Answer: During your appointment, you’ll relax into a massage table, just as you would do during a traditional massage. Your therapist will stand on the table and hold onto overhead bars for balance. Using her feet and gravity, you’ll experience the dreamiest deep tissue work you have ever felt.
+ Question: What will an Ashiatsu massage feel like?
Answer: Ashiatsu offers broad, deep compression and flowing strokes, without any sharp discomfort. It specifically targets and addresses the fascia and connective tissue issues to give you intense pressure and relief from aches, pains, and injuries.
